WORKERS’ COMPENSATION LEGISLATION
(ISSUE 1) RULED OFF THE BALLOT
November 2006
On March 8, 2006, the Ohio Legislature
passed Senate Bill 7 which amended several provisions of the
Workers’ Compensation Statute (see WHV Client Alert of April 27,
2006 for summary of changes). Certain interest groups including
organized labor initiated a referendum process to repeal some of
these amendments by seeking to place Issue 1 on the November
ballot. The Board of Elections determined that there was an
insufficient number of signatures on the referendum petition.
The Ohio Supreme Court affirmed this decision shortly before the
election and Issue 1 was invalidated.
